Skincare Tools at Home

Whether or not we realize it, the skin is one of the body’s best protection systems.

Over the last ten years, I have learned to appreciate the body’s ability to heal with the right mix of natural foods and products. It is really remarkable how quickly we respond to the things that we put in and on our bodies. With that in mind, I thought that I would kick off this skincare series with some skincare tools that help expedite the skin’s natural healing cycle.

The skin regenerates itself about once a month (every 27 days or so) which means that it is around a lot longer than most would think – making it imperative to keep it properly cleansed, hydrated and protected. This leads me to the first skincare tool that I want to share.

Let’s talk about the tools.

First, the STACKED SKINCARE – DERMAPLANING EXFOLIATING TOOL. Sure, it looks like it is simple a razor for your face, but it is so much more than that. When used properly, this tool gently removes that layer of dead skin that your exfoliating cleanser hasn’t been able to eliminate. It also takes the peach fuzz and other unwanted facial hair with it.

You are going to want to have a steady hand helping to hold your skin taut, a magnified mirror and patience until you get the hang of it all. (I do suggest attempting to achieve that recommended 45 degree angle – it is definitely beneficial.) I started super gentle and ended up having to go over a couple areas twice which was fine. My skin felt a little bit dry after it was all complete, so I used my oil based cleanser to gently wash off anything that remained on my skin. Then, I followed it up with a serum and moisturizer… and all was right in the world.

Consider me a fan.

The second skincare tool is the DERMAFLASH – DERMAPORE Ultrasonic Pore Extractor and Serum Infuser.  If you have been watching my Instagram stories then you know that I love picking at my face. It’s definitely not the best habit and it has been wreaking havoc on my skin. This skincare tool promised to deep clean my pores and it offered a second setting which helps infuse serums. Win, win – count me in. The website reviews were pretty solid, so I felt relatively confident in the purchase.

Once it arrived, I watched a few YouTube Videos reviews that were hit or miss. I started to question the purchase, but there it was in front of me… and I can’t say no to gadgets. So, I opened it up and gave it a whirl.

I’m hooked.

Now, it’s time to get into the details.

There are a few things to note…

1. The DERMAFLASH – DERMAPORE Ultrasonic Pore Extractor skincare tool is for someone who has patience. It takes practice to learn the angles and find the right amount of light pressure.

2. For anyone who is used to the satisfaction that comes from squeezing a clogged pore (without getting into a detailed description, you know what I mean…) this tool provides a different kind of satisfaction. The DERMAPORE is WAY more subtle and it takes a few go-arounds to start seeing anything on the spatula. Why? Well the ultrasonic waves at 33,000 hz gently loosens and then pushes the dirt and grime out of your pores.

(Believe it or not, that dirt is pretty deep in there. Round one starts the process by loosening the first layer, round two starts moving the second deeper layer of gunk and then round three starts lifting it out.  But, you have to remember – this isn’t a concentrated squeeze of one area so you can’t expect to see the same things.)

3. You definitely want to use this skincare tool after a shower when your pores are more open and you have to keep your skin wet.

4. You will want to follow up the treatment with your favorite toner and then serum. My favorite toner is always the Mun Skincare Anarose. (You can receive 15% off of your first purchase with the code HNWskin at checkout.)

Are these tools a lot of work? Not really.

Once you accept and do those three things, this tool does exactly what it promises. When I looked back into my magnified mirror after the process was complete, I could see clean pores. It was remarkable, I guess that I never really knew the difference. I followed the process up with my favorite toner and then used the flip side to infuse one of my favorite serums.  My skin immediately felt better.

All in all, I would consider the experience completely worth it. Both skincare tools changed the way that my skin absorbed serum, oil and moisturizer. Just don’t forget – as important as it is to focus on skincare tools, it is equally important to pay attention to the products and ingredients used to maintain the skin.

In case you are new to the world of natural skincare, I have included a few of my favorite natural products here.

P.P.S. I am going to save the microneedling tool for another day. It deserves a post of its own. But, I will tell you that I like it.

P.P.P.S. Dermaflash has a Dermaplaning tool too. I just liked the shape of the Stackedskincare one better.
